1. Math of 2D Canvas Coordinate Extraction

Unlike simple visual masking, cropping physically extracts a specific subset of pixel data. When you confirm your crop boundary on the marquee workspace, our code calculates the spatial starting coordinates and dimensions:

context.drawImage(sourceImage, startX, startY, cropWidth, cropHeight, 0, 0, cropWidth, cropHeight)

This instructs the browser's graphics processor to grab the exact subset of pixels starting at $(startX, startY)$ and copy them to a freshly allocated canvas buffer, completely discarding the surrounding pixel coordinate rows and columns.

2. Compression Quality Preservation

Cropping is the only operation that reduces file size *without* degrading image quality. Since you are removing outer pixel matrices, you shrink the total data volume mathematically.

Because there is no interpolation or scale down filtering applied to the remaining pixels, the raw quality of the cropped segment remains completely untouched. Only when exporting the fresh blob to a lossy format (like JPEG at 80% quality) is a single compression step applied.
